    • Rise and Shine is an educational program featuring video lessons with some of Arkansas's best teachers including Arkansas Teachers of the Year, virtual field trips to amazing locations and organizations all around the state, educational music videos, and more! 

      This page will connect you with standards-aligned educational resources from all seasons of Rise and Shine. There are currently more than 100 video resources available in a variety of subject areas and grade levels, as well as downloadable Power Packets for extra practice at home!

  • 7 Days: The Opioid Crisis in Arkansas

    • The opioid crisis in Arkansas affects people of all ages, across all demographic groups. In partnership with the Arkansas Department of Education and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Nathan Willis, Arkansas PBS has produced the documentary 7 Days: The Opioid Crisis in Arkansas to bring awareness to the problem and to arm community members with the knowledge to recognize someone in need of help. 

      In this resource, you will find an exclusive preview of the documentary as well as a plethora of additional resources.

  • Portraits of Courage: The Story of Women's Suffrage in Arkansas

    • The story of suffrage in Arkansas is largely undocumented and sometimes unclear. Portraits of Courage explores women's suffrage in The Natural State, taking a unique look at some of the more influential Arkansas suffragists as well as some of the national figures who inspired their fight. Combining creative reenactments and interviews with leading Arkansas historians, professors, and modern day activists, this PBS LearningMedia resource shows that while the Nineteenth Amendment celebrates its 100th anniversary, the lessons learned from its passage are just as relevant today.       Creating opportunities to talk with your child or students about being a good citizen and the elections process early on helps develop an understanding of how to ask questions, become an educated voter, and learn how to speak to other citizens in productive ways in order to problem solve.

  • Music in Arkansas: Origins

    • Beginning with the discovery of a 200 BC Hopewell panpipe and concluding as King Biscuit Time hits the airwaves in 1941 Helena, this PBS LearningMedia video resource tracks the development of Arkansas’s rich musical heritage. Origins explores Arkansas’s role in the development of fourteen distinct musical genres, as well as how the rich Arkansas soundscape has been influenced by shifts in culture and by Arkansas's unique geographical regions.

      The documentary-style segments and classroom resources have been developed with the Arkansas State Standards and the College, Career and Civic Life Framework in mind, and an educator guide is provided with this resource for middle and secondary teachers who wish to use Origins in the classroom.
